Welcome to Corsica !

The Corsican Circuit will take place from 1 to 7 July 2023 in Purtichju, then from 9 to 10 July 2023 in Bastia. The sporting event which traditionally takes place in October sees a change in its form and position.
Two international opens and one youth open in places suitable for competitive chess and holidays.
This tour is planned to visit the island of beauty along a large “diagonal”: it starts in Purtichju, and plans to end in Bastia. The tourist attraction has guided this choice.

Our communication puts forward the tourist attractions, to make them discover to the participants, and to all the chess players.
Chess sport is an activity which can be practiced in a completely mixed way, this practice having neither intellectual obstacle, nor major physical obstacle for the various publics.
During the two stages, about 400 male and female players will compete.  About thirty International Grand Masters are expected. About twenty nationalities will be represented. This is one of the most important gatherings of international chess tournaments.

This tournament is an opportunity to continue to promote Corsica through :

  • Media coverage
  • Sporting spin-offs
  • Immediate economic and tourist benefits
  • Participation in the development of tourism, enhancement of heritage and territories

Since 2020, chess has experienced a new craze in the world. Thanks to this asset, we wish to propose to the participants of these opens a complete experience during their travels in Corsica, by offering an opening towards the historical and cultural heritage of the island.

Thus, in parallel to the open, during the moments of rest several activities will be proposed to the players.

Chess by the sea

The popularity of the Purtichju and Bastia Opens is not surprising – we do our best to provide excellent conditions and in addition to a number of loyal players who come to Corsica every year, there are always a few new faces joining the tournament.
Even the grandmasters who compete for the top prize money don’t miss the opportunity to combine chess with fun and enjoy the beautiful seaside of our coastline.
