The 26th edition of the Corsican Circuit is underway, and this year it has a few surprises in store for you!
For the third year running, the Corsican Circuit 2024 will kick off with the 9th Purtichju MARINA VIVA International Open from June 29 to July 5. Three tournaments will enable participants to play 9 challenging rounds:
The first, reserved for players over 1900 Elo, will be a standards tournament.
The second will be reserved for players with 2000 Elo.
The third is for players under 1300 Elo and 14 years of age.
The format remains the same as in previous years, with 2 double rounds and €12,000 in prize money. The main guests will be announced over the next six months. But to whet your appetite, we can already announce that this year, Moroccan No.1, International Grandmaster and friend of Corsica Hicham Hamdouchi will be present. International Master and FFE vice-president Jean-Baptiste Mullon will also be on hand.
With the return of the Quenza International Blitz Open in 2023, linking the Purtichju Open with the Quenza Open would be a perfect marriage of seaside open and mountain blitz. The Ligue Corse des Echecs therefore decided to go straight ahead with this spectacular event in a beautiful village representing rural Corsica. This year’s event, to be held on Sunday 07 July, will also feature €20,000 in prize money.
The day before, a grand simultaneous followed by a Corsican evening will be organized. A prestigious guest will be there for the occasion. Today, he’s FIDE vice-president, 5-time world champion and a great friend of Corsica: Indian legend Vishy Anand will be in Corsica!
Following Quenza, the Corsican Circuit continues in Bastia on Monday July 8 with a grand simultaneous event at the Musée de Bastia. The participating champion will be announced shortly.
We look forward to seeing you there!
